Name

Mechanical:StressFreeStrain:Isotropic — Isotropic stress-free strain

Details

  • Property Category: StressFreeStrain
  • Parameters:

    epsilon0
    StressFreeStrain Type: A real number.

  • Fluxes: Stress

Discussion

The isotropic stress-free strain Property makes an additive contribution of

      \[ -C_{ijkl} \epsilon^0_{kl} \]
    (6.37)

to the Stress, where \(C_{ijkl}\) is the Material's elastic modulus, and \(\epsilon^0\) is a second rank symmetric tensor whose diagonal elements, \(\epsilon^0_{ii}\), are epsilon0 and whose off-diagonal elements are 0.

If the only contributions to the Stress are linear elasticity and stress-free strain, then the full Stress is

      \[ \sigma_{ij} = C_{ijkl}\left(\epsilon_{kl} - \epsilon^0_{kl}\right) \]
    (6.38)

so \(\epsilon^0\) is the strain at which the Stress vanishes.
