Name

Mechanical:Damping:Isotropic — Isotropic linear damping (probably unphysical).

Details

Discussion

This Property adds a term proportional to the time derivative of the Displacement to the Force_Balance equation. Specifically, it adds a contribution

      \[ -d \frac{\partial u_i}{\partial t} \]
    (6.55)

to the \(C_{ij}\) term in Eq. (6.120). \(d\) is a scalar given by the parameter damping.

[Note] Note

This property is unphysical because it breaks Galilean invariance. It was added for debugging purposes. It may, however, be useful to add stability to the numerical solution in some cases.
