Name

Couplings:ThermalExpansion:Isotropic — Isotropic thermal expansion

Details

  • Property Category: ThermalExpansion
  • Parameters:

    alpha
Thermal expansion coefficient. Type: A real number.
    T0
Temperature at which the thermal expansion vanishes. Type: A real number.

  • Fields: Temperature
  • Fluxes: Stress

Discussion

Isotropic thermal expansion makes an additive contribution of

      \[ -C_{ijkl} \alpha_{kl} (T-T_0) \]
    (6.72)

to the Stress, where \(C_{ijkl}\) is the Material's elastic modulus, and \(T\) is the local Temperature Field.

\(\alpha_{kl}\) is the thermal expansion coefficient, which is a symmetric second rank tensor whose diagonal elements, \(\alpha_{ii}\), are equal to the parameter alpha, and whose off-diagonal elements are 0.

\(T_0\) is equal to the parameter T0. It is the temperature at which the thermal strain vanishes.
