Palais des Papes
Avignon France

A wonderful very old palace in the middle of the city Palais des Papes was the papal palace during the 14th-century, when Avignon replaced Rome as capital of the Catholic Church.

Two popes are buried in the Notre-Dame des Doms Cathedral. Pont St-Bénézet, which extends from the ramparts of Palais des Popes to an abrupt end in the middle of the Rhone River, is the one mentioned in the song "Sur le pont d'Avignon"

Avignon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with charming churches, cafés, and museums, and beautiful views from the park of Rocher des Doms.
