Dear OOF Users -- A new version of OOF2, 2.1.6, is now available at http://www.ctcms.nist.gov/oof/oof2/. This version adds a new "Generic" reader for EBSD data files and the ability to generate pole figures, as well as a handful of minor bug fixes. The generic EBSD reader should be able to load any orientation map files, as long these reasonable conditions are met: 1. The file contains only ascii text. 2. Each line contains a single data point. 3. Each line contains x-y position information in consecutive columns. 4. Each data point contains angle information in consecutive columns. 5. The data points are on a rectangular or hexagonal grid. As with earlier EBSD file readers, alternate rows of hexagonal data are discarded, because OOF2 needs a rectangular array of pixels. Any of the orientation formats (Bunge, et al.) recognized by OOF2 may be used. The program can flip the x and or y axes and rotate the orientations in the xy plane to account for differing coordinate system and orientation conventions. The program can also create pixel groups from data in any column of the input file. Pole figures can be generated using the Pole Figure command in the OrientationMap menu. It uses the orientations of each pixel's Material, so don't forget to assign Materials to the pixels and give each Material an Orientation or OrientationMap before generating the pole figure. It is *not* sufficient to just build a Microstructure from an EBSD data file. The pole figure plot will be saved as a pdf file. It is not (yet) displayed within OOF2. Please let us know if you have difficulties downloading, installing, or running the code. Sincerely, The OOF developers Andrew Reid Gunay Dogan Steve Langer
