We propose two models based on the Ginzburg Landau approach to stud=
y the dynamics of stress induced morphological instabilities.=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
The first model explains the quasi dendritic growth of Co deposited=
 on a  Pt(111) surface as observed by Gruetter and Duerig. The anis=
otropy of the lattice strain is shown to have a profound impact on =
the morphology of the domain.=0D=0A=
=0D=0A=
The second model is introduced to study the dislocation-free strain=
 relief as observed in Stranski-Krastanov growth in heteroepitaxy a=
nd in  non-hydrostatically strained He4 experiments. Two and three =
dimensional simulations were performed in which the associated Grin=
feld instability was observed and studied.
